In the very heart of the hill capital Nuwara Eliya, nearly 6128 feet above sea level, is the place still fondly called “Little England” stands surrounded by mist swathed high mountains, both rugged and peaceful. This is the tea country where one can leisurely survey the green plantations, a visit to the races and perhaps play a round of golf – one of the finest 18 hole Golf Course in Sri Lanka just a step away, take a walk along the Gregory Lake built by the British for their trout fishing or even take to the water on a solitary boat. One can enjoy the breathtaking view or drive up to the highest mountain in Sri Lanka “Piduruthalagala”, have access to agriculture lands, rain forests, massive public parks and visit tea factories to see the process of manufacturing tea first hand.

Blessed with a salubrious climate, Nuwara Eliya is hardly 180 kms from the hot and humid Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. For someone who loves nature, there is Galway Nature Reserve to take a nature walk, visit the Ambewela farm where you can buy fresh milk, yoghurt and cheese, then trek towards Kande Ela (The Mountain Stream) where you can even have a picnic.

The famous World’s End is a major attraction within Horton Plains National Park. The Endemic Slender Loris and Purple Monkey are among the important animal species that could be seen in addition to Sambhur, endemic fauna, various types of birds and finally get to the precipices known as World’s End, a sheer drop of over 1000 feet. The Hakgala Botanical Gardens is only 45 minutes drive and also see the Sita Amman Hindu temple.
